Every catholic believe in the Magisterium of the church, and believe that all Christian are members of the church and the church is the body of Christ. According to the teachings of St Paul, in his letter to the Corinthians, he teaches us that we are all baptised with one holy spirit, and we are formed in to one body through the Holy Spirit.
As we are all brothers and sisters in Christ, , we have a got a duty to support and help each other. One has to consider the most important commandment of Jesus Christ that we must love one another, We are bound to look after each other and if one struggle, we have a duty to prayer for the deceased members for the repose of the soul.
Catholic believes that there are three states of church; the Militant, Penitent, and Triumphant. The believers in the current word also called the pilgrims of the church, and in order for the souls to reach to the triumphant state, one has to go through the purification.
As the primary duty of every Christian is to love one another, in no situation, one can ignore the duty of helping another member of the church who is in purgatory. The Triumphant Soul, who has reached in heaven will start pray for the pilgrims on earth to lead a graceful life, to remain away from sin so that through their graceful life this pilgrim can reach heaven.
The great pain and the unfortunate situation of a suffering soul in purgatory is that this soul is away from the vicinity of God and this is the most painful situation. Sadly, this soul cannot do anything to see God. However, as they are so dear to God, they will be able to pray for others, and that they will definitely pray for those who pray for their early release from purgatory. And when these souls are saved from purgatory, they will definitely pray for us, particularly for us to keep away from sin, and to lead a devoted Christian life on earth.
The suffering souls in purgatory include deceased members of our own family, they could be our parents, grandparents, other relatives’ siblings and people who helped us immensely during their life on earth. These souls would naturally expect help from those people received their help on earth.
It is naturally our turn to help them out from their most sorrowful situation, and once they reach heaven with our prayers, their prime aim would be to show their gratitude for us by interceding directly for our intercessions.
In fact, by praying for the souls in purgatory, we also receive special permanent intercessors for us and for all our dear ones on earth. As a result of this we will be receiving abundant blessings from heavens.
Above all by prying for the souls in purgatory, we become part of the salvific work of the church as so many souls get into haven and these souls start praying for there brothers and sisters on earth.
